International Standard University (ISU) has launched the first issue of its textile-focused magazine Spandex, aiming to strengthen student engagement with industry and promote innovation in Bangladesh’s key manufacturing sector.
The publication was unveiled on Thursday at the university’s media lab in a programme organised by the ISU Textile Club.
International Standard University Vice-Chancellor Abdul Awal Khan inaugurated the magazine, positioning it as a platform to develop creativity, analytical thinking and presentation skills among students.
The event was chaired by ISU Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dean and Department of Textile Engineering Chairman Md Abul Kashem. Assistant Professor Shamima Siddika, Senior Lecturer Habiba Altaf and Lecturer Md Hasibul Hasan attended, along with department heads and students.
Bangladesh’s textile sector remains a central driver of economic growth, requiring continuous innovation and problem-solving approaches to sustain momentum, said ISU Vice-Chancellor Abdul Awal Khan.
The Spandex magazine will provide students with opportunities to engage with industry practices and gain practical insights relevant to their future careers, he said, urging them to go beyond academic coursework and participate in writing, analysis and creative activities.
ISU Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dean and Department of Textile Engineering Chairman Md Abul Kashem said the publication would help build students’ intellectual and analytical capabilities.
He added that contributing to the magazine would allow students to address real industry challenges and present innovative ideas.
The magazine, developed under the Department of Textile Engineering and published by the ISU Textile Club, reflects a broader effort to bridge academic learning with industry needs in Bangladesh’s textile sector.
