Islami Andolan Bangladesh will back honest and capable anti-fascist candidates in constituencies where it will not field its own nominee.
The party will contest 268 seats independently, while offering support to opposition candidates in the remaining areas, who are anti-fascist.
The announcement came from the party’s Joint Secretary General and spokesperson, Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman, in a statement on Sunday.
He said the decision reflects careful consideration of political dynamics and the party’s multifaceted principles.
“The 268 seats for independent contest have already been presented to the public through our press briefing,” he said.
Regarding the remaining 32 constituencies, Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman explained that “The party will support candidates from anti-fascist forces who are honest, competent, and accountable to the public.”
He added that formal announcements for these constituencies will follow discussions after election campaigns commence on 20 January.
Commenting further, he said, “We are not making final decisions on this matter yet. The announcement will come at the appropriate time.”
