Professor Mahbubur Rahman, a member of the Presidium of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and convener of the party’s Election Steering Committee, has said that the spread of falsehoods online is making the election environment unhealthy.

He said this at a press briefing on Wednesday at 3pm, after a meeting with DB Chief and Additional Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam regarding stopping the continuous falsehoods against the Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh.

He said that, recently, an organised criminal gang is continuously spreading falsehoods against Islami Andolan Bangladesh, its ameer, and other leaders. Continuing this, fake and fabricated news was spread online claiming that the army recovered money from Charmonai, he said, and these falsehoods and cyber bullying were making the overall election environment unhealthy.

“It is spreading filth. This must be stopped,” he said.

Mahbubur Rahman said that the matter was discussed in detail with DB Chief Shafiqul Islam is taking the matter seriously and has assured of taking legal measures.

“We have demanded an end to slander, falsehoods, and misinformation against anyone in the name of political campaigning,” he added.

Present at the meeting with the DB Chief were the party’s Publicity Secretary Sheikh Fazlul Karim Maruf and Legal Affairs Secretary Advocate Shawkat Ali.
