Ireland head coach Heinrich Malan says his side are determined to bounce back in the second Test against Bangladesh in Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium, learning from the spin challenges and their debut at the venue two years ago.
After suffering an innings defeat in the series opener in Sylhet, Ireland showed a brighter approach with the bat late in the match. Malan is confident that more time in the longest format will help the team adapt and improve.
“It’s a great chance for us to come back here,” Malan said on Monday. “We have a better understanding of the conditions now. The more we play, the quicker players figure things out and the faster we improve.”
Ireland’s batters took a more aggressive, sweep-heavy approach in the first Test’s second innings. Malan said this was not a set strategy, but a way to adjust to the game’s flow.
“We are trying to strike the right balance,” he said. “It’s about reading the match situation, understanding the conditions, and setting a tempo we can stick to in Test cricket.”
Spin is expected to dominate at Mirpur, and Ireland are preparing to tweak their attack to match the conditions. “History tells us it spins here,” Malan added. “We’ll adjust the playing XI and aim to put out a combination that can compete over five days.”
