Iran began its final World Cup build-up as the national team arrived in Turkey on Monday for a training camp before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The squad landed in Antalya, where players and staff will stay for several weeks. The camp will help the team prepare for the tournament and complete visa processes before traveling to the United States.
Iran’s team, known as Team Melli, traveled with 22 players and coaching staff. They were seen arriving in matching navy blue tracksuits.
The training camp comes during a tense time for the country. Recent conflict and security fears have created uncertainty, but Iran still plans to compete in the World Cup as scheduled.
Iran will use Turkey as a temporary base before moving to Arizona in the United States. The team will play all three Group G matches in the US.
Officials are also working to arrange friendly matches during the Antalya camp. One match is expected against Gambia on May 29, while talks continue for another game.
Head coach Amir Ghalenoei said the camp is important not only for football but also for handling visa matters before the team heads to North America.
Iran qualified for the World Cup in March 2025. Since then, political tensions and travel concerns have raised questions about preparations, but FIFA has kept Iran in the tournament.
The team will open its World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15. Iran will then face Belgium in Los Angeles before taking on Egypt in Seattle.
