Intra-party clash leaves one BNP activist killed

A senior official of the Sechchasebak Dal was killed and two others were injured during a violent clash between two factions of BNP in Rupganj upazila on Friday night.

The incident took place at the BNP office in the Trishkahnia area of Kanchan Pourashava following a dispute regarding the formation of local committees and the allocation of leadership positions.

The deceased has been identified as Azaharul Islam, the Senior Vice-President of the Sechchasebak Dal for Ward No. 9 of Kanchan Pourashava.

According to witnesses and local sources, the confrontation began when local BNP leaders Rajib and Hasan Miah engaged in a heated argument with another Sechchasebak Dal leader, Sabuj Miah, over the designations within the Ward No. 9 BNP and Sechchasebak Dal committees.

The situation escalated into a physical Altercation. It is alleged that when Azaharul Islam stepped forward to stop the fighting, Rajib and Hasan punched him in the chest, causing him to collapse on the ground. He was immediately rushed to a local hospital in a critical condition, where the attending physician pronounced him dead.

The clash also left Sechchasebak Dal leaders Sabuj Miah and Emarat Miah injured. They were provided with medical treatment at a local hospital.

Following the death, tension flared up across the area. Sabjel Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupganj Police Station, stated that police personnel have been deployed to the locality to maintain order and control the situation. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident as of yet.
