International observers have expressed optimism ahead of Bangladesh’s upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, according to Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the Chief Adviser.
Speaking to journalists on Friday morning at the Nijananduali Nitai Gour Gopal Seba Ashram in Magura, he said the world expects a democratic and peaceful electoral process.
“We want all communities to vote in a calm and safe environment,” Shafiqul Alam said.
He added that both the government and the Election Commission have made extensive preparations to ensure a successful election.
In Magura district, 301 polling centres are being equipped with CCTV cameras. Eight hundred police officers have already undergone training. Across the country, high-risk centres have been identified, and security personnel at many locations will be equipped with body cameras to ensure safety.
During the visit, Shafiqul Alam criticised Awami League, calling it “extremely fascist.”
He cited past irregularities and corruption under the party, claiming that during its rule, employment was limited to party-affiliated youth league members.
He also denounced the Awami League’s recent allegations of terrorism against July protestors and labelled reports of 3,000 police deaths as “gross misinformation” spread from abroad.
The press briefing followed a tour of the ashram, which was attended by Chinmayananda Das Brahmachari , principal of the Nitai Gour Gopal Seba Ashram, and Tarun Bhowmik among others.
