A member of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) was killed in a road accident in the city on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Constable Mubinul Islam Nayon, 28.
Police and hospital sources said around 2:45am, Nayon left the Dampara Police Lines Reserve Barrack on his motorcycle to report for duty at Kotwali Police Station. When he reached Kadamtali Artmach Mor, a waste collection truck operated by Chattogram City Corporation hit him from behind.
Nayon suffered severe injuries on the spot. He was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where the duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.
The deceased hailed from Buri Pukur village in Ward No-3 of Chokoria Upazila in Cox’s Bazar district. He was the son of Nurul Amin.
CMP Assistant Commissioner (Media) Aminur Rashid confirmed the incident, saying that the truck involved has been seized following an investigation. A case has been filed at Kotwali Police Station, and the helper of the vehicle has been taken into custody.
