Inqilab Moncho has threatened to launch a movement to topple the government if the killers of its spokesperson Osman Hadi are not brought to justice within 30 working days.
Platform’s Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber made the announcement during a protest at Shahbagh, stating, “Our message is clear. If the government fails to complete the trial within the next 30 working days, we will begin a movement to remove it from power. A government that cannot arrest Osman Hadi’s killers or identify those behind the murder has no right to remain in office.”
He demanded that by 7 January, the authorities must identify not only the gunmen but also all individuals involved in the assassination and submit a formal charge sheet. “If the government thinks it can stay in power by hiding the truth, it has no reason to remain in office,” he said.
Jaber also criticised the government for failing to provide updates on the case, saying Friday marked the 21st day since Hadi was shot and the 15th day since his death, yet there had been no progress.
Hadi, a leader of the anti-Indian hegemony July mass uprising and the Inqilab Moncho, was shot in public on 12 December in Dhaka by two assailants and later died while receiving treatment in Singapore on 18 December.
Police reported that the shooters, Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh, fled to India following the attack. Faisal is a leader of the banned Chhatra League. Hadi’s political allies have alleged that forces linked to the Awami League were behind the assassination.
Jaber also questioned the government’s broader handling of security and governance, stating that the public deserves a government accountable to the people, not confined to cantonments, ahead of the upcoming elections.
