Defence Adviser Brigadier General (retd) AKM Shamsul Islam visited Narayanganj Dockyard to bolster the country’s defence capabilities, naval power, and maritime security.
During the visit, the defence adviser on Monday was briefed in detail on the overall operations of the Narayanganj Dockyard.
The briefing covered shipbuilding and repair capacities, modern technical facilities, infrastructural development, production activities, maintenance systems, and ongoing development projects currently under the supervision of Bangladesh Navy.
Following the briefing, he inspected key installations, workshops, production areas, and various repair facilities.
Speaking after the inspection, the defence adviser emphasised that the development of the domestic naval industry is crucial for protecting national security, naval strength, and maritime interests.
He said indigenous capability would be the primary strength in enhancing maritime security.
“Narayanganj Dockyard must be transformed into a modern, effective, and advanced naval industrial institution by increasing shipbuilding, repair, and maintenance capacities,” Shamsul said.
The adviser laid special emphasis on ensuring quality, punctuality, technical expertise, and professionalism in every activity of the dockyard.
He directed the concerned officials to elevate the institution’s capacity using modern technology, the creation of skilled manpower via training, and planned management.
The defence adviser further stressed the need to solidify national defence preparations by ensuring the maximum use of local resources, skills, and technology.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the facility, the defence adviser remarked that the Narayanganj Dockyard is not merely a shipbuilding and repair centre, but a vital foundation for the country’s maritime capability, defence readiness, and self-reliance.
He noted that every project and initiative of the dockyard must be aligned with national interests.
Shamsul praised the professionalism, dedication, and competence of the officers, engineers, technical personnel, and staff working at the dockyard. Urging everyone to work with a sense of responsibility and patriotism, he expressed hope that through collective efforts, discipline, and firm commitment, the Narayanganj Dockyard would play an even more significant role in enhancing the nation’s naval and maritime capabilities in the future.
The defence adviser further observed that the dockyard would evolve into a powerful facilitator for achieving national security, economic progress, and self-reliance in the defence sector.
To this end, Shamsul underscored the importance of accelerating ongoing development activities and working in a coordinated manner to implement future.
