Popular 1990s film star Ilias Kanchan is currently undergoing treatment in London. He has been unwell for more than seven months and has spent the past six months in the UK. The actor, who founded the Safe Roads Movement, is suffering from a brain tumour. Doctors have said that operating on it is highly risky, as it is located close to a deep and vital nerve within the brain. He is receiving care at the home of his only daughter, Israt Jahan.
On November 26, Liton Ershad, founding member and vice-chairman of the Safe Roads movement, briefed the media on the actor’s latest condition. He said that Ilias Kanchan is now able to speak fully, whereas he previously struggled with speech. A large part of the tumour has already been removed, and efforts are now underway to inactivate the remaining portion through radiation and chemotherapy.
Liton Ershad added that Ilias Kanchan is currently on a course of medication. Once this is completed, doctors will carry out further tests before deciding on the next stage of treatment. The new test results will determine how well the treatment has progressed and what condition the actor is in. Only then will a decision be made regarding his return to Bangladesh.
It is worth noting that on August 5, Ilias Kanchan underwent major head surgery under the supervision of Professor Demetrius at Wellington Hospital in London.
