While addressing a rally in his hometown of Bogura, Tarique said referred to himself as a son of Bogura, promising to return to its people and committing to its continuous development.
On Saturday, while traveling from Bogura to Sirajganj, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman delivered speeches at roadside rallies at Majhira Bandar in Shahjahanpur upazila and for Sherpur-Dhunat upazilas on the Dhaka-Bogura highway.
At the election roadside rally, held for Morshed Milton, BNP’s candidate for the Bogura-7 constituency (Gabtoli-Shahjahanpur), Tarique Rahman said, “I have entrusted Milton with the responsibility of overseeing the development of this area and the sorrows and hardships of the people.
On 12 February, you will vote for the ‘sheaf of paddy’ and make Milton victorious. Through Milton, I will do all the work for the people of Gabtoli and Shahzahanpur.”
Before leaving, he said, “I am a son of this home. And I will come again. Pray for me so that I can work for the country.”
With Tarique Rahman’s ancestral home in Bagbari village of Gabtoli upazila under Bogura-7, it saw the party’s late chairperson Khaleda Zia win in every election held for the seat between 1991 and 2008.
While nomination papers had been submitted on behalf of Khaleda Zia this time around as well, due to her death, President of Gabtoli upazila BNP Morshed Milton was chosen as the BNP nominee.
Earlier, at 11am at Hotel Naz Garden’s ballroom in Bogura, Tarique Rahman held a views exchange meeting with leaders Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency, one of the two constituencies he’s fighting for alongside Dhaka-17.
At the meeting, he said, “Bogura is BNP’s stronghold, I entrust you with the responsibility of this stronghold, and that you will look after this stronghold and its people.”
At Sherpur, addressing the voters of Sherpur-Dhunat upazila, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman said, “I have returned to you after many years. For this, I give millions and billions of thanks to Allah. On 12 February, the long-awaited election will be held in the country. In the past, in every election, the people of Sherpur-Dhunat have made the ‘sheaf of paddy’ candidate victorious. As many times as the sheaf of paddy has been victorious, it has been earnest in achieving the development of the Sherpur-Dhunat area. This time too, I appeal to you to make BNP candidate Golam Mohammad Siraj victorious.”
After the roadside rally, the BNP chief left for Sirajganj, where he is scheduled to attend another election rally.
