A hotel worker died after the owner’s son allegedly struck him with a hammer at Khamar Intersection in Rangpur city on Tuesday night, UNB reports.
The victim was identified as Shaon, 24, a resident of Nurer Chak in Aditmari upazila.
Sanatan Chakraborty, deputy commissioner of Rangpur DB police, said Mizanur Rahman Monu, son of hotel owner Amir Hossain, was arrested in connection with the incident.
During interrogation, Mizanur admitted to arguing with Shaon over spitting betel leaf residue near a utensil storage area. Following the dispute, he hit Shaon with a hammer, police said.
Family members of Mizanur claimed he has long suffered from mental health problems.
Police said legal action will be taken once a complaint is filed by the victim’s family.
