Police recovered the body of a man from a paddy field in Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Moksedul, 52.
His body was recovered around 6am from a paddy field beside the Fultonggi Eidgah ground in Manitbati village under Satnala union.
According to police and locals, Moksedul left home on Sunday afternoon with his auto-van to pick up passengers and had been missing since then.
Locals spotted his body in the field early Monday and informed police.
Police prepared an inquest report and sent the body to the Dinajpur Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. A towel was found wrapped around his neck.
Chirirbandar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mahmudun Nabi said primary evidence and the circumstances at the scene suggested that miscreants may have murdered Moksedul between Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning before fleeing with his auto-van.
The OC added that the process of filing a murder case regarding the incident is underway. Police drives are continuing to identify and arrest those involved in the killing, and surveillance in the area has been heightened.
