The High Court (HC) has directed the Election Commission to preserve the ballots, result sheets, and other election documents of Bagerhat-2 following a legal challenge to the results of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

A single bench of Justice Mohammad Ali issued the order on Wednesday after accepting a petition filed by BNP candidate for Bagerhat-2 Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain challenging the election results.

The court also issued notices to the other candidates of the constituency. Barrister Sakib Mahbub represented the petitioner during the proceedings.

In the 13th National Parliamentary Election, Sheikh Monjurul Haque (Rahad), nominated by Jamaat-e-Islami, was declared the winner of Bagerhat-2. Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, the nearest rival from BNP, has now challenged the results in the High Court.
