A writ petition has been filed with High Court challenging the validity of government notification that banned all activities of Awami League, including its affiliate, associate, and fraternal organisations.
On Monday, Deputy Attorney General Noor Mohammad Azmi confirmed the filing of this writ.
The petition has prayed for a rule asking why the notification, issued on 12 May 2025 by the Public Security Division under Ministry of Home Affairs, should not be declared to have been issued without lawful authority.
It has also sought a stay on the operation of the notification while the rule is pending.
The petition was listed as item number 60 on Monday’s daily cause list of the High Court bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Aziz Ahmad Bhuiyan.
The Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued the notification on 12 May 2025.
According to the notification, all activities of the Bangladesh Awami League and its front, associate, and fraternal organisations – including any publications, campaigning in mass media, online and social media, as well as organising processions, meetings, rallies, and conferences – will remain banned until the trial proceedings of their leaders and activists are completed at the International Crimes Tribunal.
Md Al Amin, a resident of Sreenagar in Munshiganj, filed the writ petition with High Court challenging the notification’s validity.
