The High Court has formed a special electoral tribunal to hear petitions challenging alleged irregularities in the recent parliamentary elections, under Section 49 of the Representation of the People Order.
The announcement was made on Thursday.
A single bench headed by High Court Justice Md. Zakir Hossain will conduct the tribunal. The bench has been granted authority to hear election-related petitions alongside its regular civil jurisdiction.
The tribunal will consider petitions and applications transferred to it under the 1972 Representation of the People Order, as amended by the 2001 ordinance, including related rules and procedures.
Under Section 49, candidates elected to parliament have 45 days from the publication of their gazette notifications to file complaints regarding any alleged election violations.
In the 13th General Parliamentary Elections held on 12 February, voting took place in 299 out of 300 constituencies.
Results for 297 seats were declared on 13 February, and the Election Commission has since published the gazette notifications for the elected members of parliament.
