The Election Commission has suspended polling in Pabna-1 and Pabna-2 constituencies due to boundary dispute.

Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud confirmed the development to the TIMES of Bangladesh on Friday morning.

He said the decision followed an order from the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. The polls will remain suspended until the Appellate Division issues further instructions.

Earlier, on 5 January, the Appellate Division suspended the part of the Election Commission’s revised 24 December gazette that reinstated the previous boundaries of Pabna-1 and Pabna-2 constituencies.

The order came during hearings on petitions filed by the Election Commission and a candidate challenging a High Court verdict.

The bench was led by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury.
