BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed dissatisfaction with the current law and order situation in the country, citing ongoing political violence.
Speaking to the press at his residence in Thakurgaon on Friday, Fakhrul said, “People across the country are eagerly awaiting the elections, but I am not satisfied with the law and order situation. Political leaders are being killed, and the government has not taken any effective action.”
Fakhrul further stated that the results of university elections would not have any significant impact on the national elections.
“The youth from alternative student organizations worked during the time of the fascist government, but the Student Party has been unable to carry out organizational activities,” he added.
On the topic of Tarique Rahman’s upcoming visit to the northern region, Fakhrul explained that it is a personal trip. He mentioned that after returning to country, Tarique Rahman would visit martyr Abu Sayed’s grave, a casualty of the July movement.
Fakhrul noted that after his arrival in Dhaka, there was a massive gathering of millions of people. He highlighted the enthusiasm among leaders, workers, and the general public during the district-level tour, stating that it would help uplift the economically backward northern region and move it towards self-reliance.
The event was also attended by district BNP general secretary Paygam Ali, vice-president Abu Taher Dulal, and other leaders of the party’s affiliated organizations.
