Hasan Mahmud became Bangladesh’s fastest fast bowler to reach 50 Test wickets, achieving the milestone in his 17th match during the one-off Test against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi.

The 25-year-old surpassed Taskin Ahmed, who had previously held the record after reaching 50 wickets in 18 Tests. Mashrafe Bin Mortaza had taken 19 Tests to reach the mark.

Hasan’s latest milestone came on the third morning, when he claimed a hat-trick on his way to a five-wicket haul against Afghanistan. He finished with figures of 5-55 from 21 overs, including five maidens, as the visitors were dismissed for 240.

It was Hasan’s fourth five-wicket haul in Test cricket, putting him level with Shahadat Hossain for the most five-wicket hauls by a Bangladesh fast bowler.

Among all Bangladesh bowlers, however, Mehidy Hasan Miraz remains the quickest to 50 Test wickets, having reached the mark in 13 matches. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam is second on that list, having achieved the milestone in 14 Tests.
