Two persons have fallen ill while being confined inside the Vice-Chancellor’s building at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet).
One of them, Engineer Shahriar, was given initial treatment before being transferred to Evercare Hospital in Chattogram city for advanced medical care.
In addition, saline was administered to others staying inside the VC building on the physician’s advice.
Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor Sheikh Shariful Alam and others inside the building remained confined at the time of filing this report.
Around 1am on Tuesday, Mohammad Abdullah, the on-duty physician at Cuet’s medical centre, and Basu Dev, a technologist at the centre, entered the VC building to examine those who had fallen ill.
Earlier, the confined VC had contacted the physician by phone and requested that he come to the building. The physician and the technologist entered after discussions with the students. Representatives of several media outlets also entered the building at that time.
On the physician’s advice, Shahriar was then taken out of the VC building and brought to the Cuet medical centre. After receiving initial treatment there, he was transferred to the hospital for advanced medical care.
Speaking on the matter, new VC Shariful said, “Two of our former students are suffering from complications related to high blood pressure. So, I called for an ambulance and a physician. Since everyone here has been confined for a long time, they are all feeling unwell and exhausted.”
On Monday morning, Shariful entered the campus and broke the lock of his office. Later around 12 noon, protesting students gave him an ultimatum to leave the building. Since he did not leave within the stipulated time, they confined him inside.
