Sreemangal burst into colour on Thursday as a vivid, music-filled rally swept through the town ahead of the upcoming Harmony Festival, transforming the area into a celebration of multicultural unity.
The rally, organised by Bangladesh Tourism Board and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism with support from the Sreemangal upazila administration, began at 11am and drew participation from a wide cross-section of the community.
Upazila nirbahi officer Md Islam Uddin and assistant commissioner (land) Mohibullah Akon led the procession, which featured representatives of local ethnic communities, teachers, students and leaders of social and cultural organisations.
Traditional instruments provided a rhythmic pulse throughout the parade, while colourful banners and placards carried messages of harmony, coexistence and humanity. The streets filled with smiles, excitement and pride in Sreemangal’s diverse cultural identity.
The three-day festival will be held for the second time at the Phulchhara tea estate grounds from 18-20 December, promising a grand showcase of national and international ethnic performances.
Visitors will experience dance, music and cultural presentations from various communities at home and abroad, along with exhibitions of traditional attire, cuisine and ways of life.
The festival is expected to create a vibrant cultural convergence, highlighting the richness of Sreemangal and Bangladesh’s diverse heritage. Anticipation is already building across the town, with preparations, decorations and festive lights taking over the streets.
