The Sajek Gano Adhikar Rokkha Committee and the Sajek Karbari Association have announced an indefinite blockade on the Sajek route from Thursday.

The decision was announced in a joint press statement issued on Wednesday by Babudhan Chakma, convenor of the Sajek Gano Adhikar Rokkha Committee, and Natun Joy Chakma, president of the Sajek Karbari Association.

They are renewing their protest to demand the removal of members of the Santu Larma-led JSS from the area.

According to the statement, a blockade was enforced on the Sajek tourism route on 11 October 2026, demanding the removal of JSS members from the area. The administration assured the leaders that their three-point demands, including the removal of JSS members, would be implemented within 48 hours.

The leaders suspended the indefinite blockade for 48 hours following the assurance. They said the deadline expired on Tuesday without their demands being met.

They also alleged that army personnel set fire to and burned down the house of a villager, Miyyo Chakma, in Chillatuli village under Machalong on Tuesday.

In response, the organisations announced that the blockade would continue until armed JSS members were removed from the area. They said the move aimed to ensure public security, protect the lives and property of local residents, and stop terrorism and oppression by armed JSS members.

The renewed blockade will remain in force until further notice.

The statement said emergency fire service vehicles, ambulances, hearses, vehicles carrying emergency medicines, newspaper delivery vans and press vehicles used by journalists collecting news would be exempt from the blockade.

Meanwhile, the Sajek Resort and Cottage Owners Association, along with transport workers and the Mahendra Association, held a human chain at Shapla Chattar in Khagrachhari on Wednesday morning, demanding the reopening of Sajek tourism for visitors and adequate security for tourists.

After the demonstration, the organisations submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner of the district.
