Police have arrested three people, including a lawyer representing former Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, hours after she chanted the “Joy Bangla” slogan outside a local court.
The arrestees have been identified as Ziaul Huq Kajol, his brother Atiqul Islam, and Mahabub Rahman.
They have been arrested in a case registered with Fatullah Model Police Station.
According to police, Kajol and his brother Atiqul were arrested on Tuesday night from their residence on Allama Iqbal Road in Narayanganj city.
Meanwhile, Mahabub was apprehended from Garment Goli on Deobhog Paka Road.
Earlier on Tuesday, lower court proceedings were scheduled for a hearing on the final report and the renewal of former Mayor Ivy’s bail in Tuhin murder case, in which she had previously secured bail from the High Court.
During the hearing, her defence lawyer submitted an application seeking the extension of her bail, which the court granted.
Upon exiting the courtroom surrounded by party leaders and activists, Ivy chanted the slogan, “Joy Bangla cannot be suppressed, Joy Bangla”, before getting into her vehicle.
The accompanying party activists also joined in chanting the “Joy Bangla” slogan as she entered the car.
