Four disadvantaged people in Nawabganj have received assistance after applying through Hello DC, the digital citizen-service platform of the Dhaka district administration. Two widows, one person suffering from heart disease and one meritorious student received a sewing machine and financial grants.

Dhaka District Commissioner and District Magistrate Farida Khanam visited Nawabganj Upazila and handed over the assistance to the beneficiaries on Tuesday, said a press release on Wednesday.

According to district administration sources, the Hello DC app was launched to simplify citizen services and deliver government assistance quickly to marginalised people. Citizens can apply directly through the app, setting out their problems and needs. Applications received are scrutinised and assistance is given to those who qualify.

Lily Begum of Baruakhali Union had been living in financial hardship with her daughter after losing her husband four years ago. She applied through the app for a sewing machine to earn a living, and was given one.

Sumon Saha of Kolakopa Union, a meritorious student studying at honours level at Nawabganj College, applied for help with the cost of his studies because of his family’s financial hardship and was given a financial grant.

Financial assistance was also given for the treatment of Sheikh Kazim Uddin of Kailail Union, who suffers from heart disease. Jamuna Mondal of Agla Union, a widow who supports her children by working in other people’s homes, also received assistance to help her earn a living.
