Turkish champions Galatasaray have signed German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City on a free transfer.
The 34 year old, whose contract with City had a year remaining, has agreed a deal until the end of the 2026 27 season. He was permitted to leave with the Turkish transfer window still open.
Gundogan was Pep Guardiola’s first signing for City in 2016. He spent seven years there before a move to Barcelona in 2023, but rejoined the club last August. He made 33 Premier League appearances last season.
In a statement, Gundogan said, “Manchester City will always hold a special place in my heart. We have enjoyed so much success in our time together and there have been so many unforgettable moments, not least being captain for the Treble winning season.”
He won the Premier League five times and the Champions League with City. Born in Gelsenkirchen to Turkish parents, Gundogan previously played for Bochum, Nuremberg and Borussia Dortmund.
City director of football Hugo Viana said, “Ilkay Gundogan is a name synonymous with success at Manchester City. We will never forget his legacy here.”
