A 25-year-old grocery merchant was hacked with a cleaver and mugged of his motorcycle and cash in Mohammadpur, Dhaka on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Hridoy Mia, resides in Ganaktuli area of Hazaribagh and runs a grocery shop in Dhanmondi.
The incident occurred on Sadek Khan Road in Mohammadpur at around 7:45am on Thursday when Hridoy was riding his motorcycle towards Mohammadpur Krishi Market to fetch goods for his shop.
According to the victim’s friend, Md Biplob, four to five muggers intercepted Hridoy’s motorcycle on Sadek Khan Road. The attackers then hacked Hridoy on his back and waist with a cleaver before snatching his motorcycle and Tk20,000 in cash.
Biplob added that upon receiving the news, Hridoy was rescued in critical condition and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Following treatment at DMCH, he was brought back to his residence in Hazaribagh.
Inspector Habibur Rahman, In-charge of the DMCH Police Camp, confirmed that Hridoy had injury marks on his back and waist. He said the victim returned home after receiving primary treatment at the hospital.
