Grameenphone has contributed Tk24.60 crore to the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation Fund, representing 10 per cent of the company’s Workers Profit Participation Fund for 2025.
The cheque was handed over to Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury at a ceremony at the ministry in Dhaka by a delegation led by Grameenphone Chief Human Resources Officer Sayeda Tahya Hossain, said a press release on Tuesday.
Labour and Employment Secretary Abdur Rahman Tarafdar was present, along with Grameenphone representatives Mohammad Aulad Hossain, Mohammad Khaled Mridha, Muhammad Tawhidul Islam and Md Harun Ur Rashid.
Hossain said the contribution reflects the company’s commitment to employee welfare and belief in collective action. “Through continued collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, we aim to support a workforce that can thrive in an evolving digital landscape and contribute meaningfully to Bangladesh’s socio-economic progress,” she said.
Under the Bangladesh Labour Act, eligible companies contribute one-tenth of 5 per cent of their profits to the fund. Grameenphone’s total accumulated contribution up to 2024 stands at Tk329.89 crore, the press release added.
The company supports youth, women and underserved communities through initiatives including Grameenphone Academy, Digital Inclusion for Marginalised Communities, FutureMakers and Platform SHE.
