Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman said the government will not take any action beyond the law if Sheikh Hasina, who left for India amid mass protests, returns to Bangladesh.
“If she wants to come back, the government will do whatever is legally required,” he told reporters. “She herself has said she will return. If she comes, that is good. She will face the court. The government will not act outside the law.”
He made the remarks around 11am Friday after inaugurating a tree plantation programme and fair at the old DC Court premises in Jhenaidah town.
The minister added that proposals of the Law Reform Commission will be implemented in line with the July Charter. “The interim government issued 133 ordinances based on the commission’s proposals. We have adopted almost all of those reforms. For the rest, a special committee has been formed. Guided by the July Charter, we will carry forward the reforms and make necessary amendments,” he said.
On the case filed over the attack on NCP central leaders in Habiganj, Asaduzzaman said the investigation will proceed legally and those found guilty will face action.
Civil Aviation and Tourism State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, Prime Minister’s political aide Rashed Khan, Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Noman Hossain, District Council Administrator M.A. Majid and others attended the event.
