The government has undertaken multiple plans to protect city-dwellers from the mosquito menace, according to Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain.
He made these remarks on Wednesday while inspecting the mosquito control activities of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) in Dhalpur. He also informed that samples have been collected to test the effectiveness of imported mosquito insecticides.
The minister acknowledged that the mosquito infestation has significantly increased recently. However, he noted that the new government began working on this issue within just seven days of assuming office.
“We started working considering mosquito control as a priority immediately after taking charge of the ministry,” he stated.
The minister said the collected insecticide samples will be tested quickly, adding that alternative measures will be taken if the tests find them ineffective. He also mentioned that dengue prevention is being given the highest priority.
The minister called upon city dwellers to play an active role in this campaign, advising them to regularly clean areas around their homes where water accumulates.
