A Dhaka court has imposed travel bans on Kazi Ertaza Hasan, assistant secretary of the banned student organisation Dhaka Metropolitan South unit Chhatra League, and three other individuals amid ongoing corruption investigations.
The other three are Islamul Haque, former branch manager of South Bangla Agriculture and Commerce Bank’s Bijaynagar branch; Khandakar Noore Imam, former FVP of the same bank; and Jannatul Mawa Swity, a former trainee assistant officer.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the orders on Wednesday following two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the development.
ACC Deputy Assistant Director Abu Mohammad Anwarul Masud submitted the petition, citing ongoing investigations into Erteza for acquiring illegal assets through corruption and fraud.
Reliable sources indicated that he was attempting to leave the country, which could obstruct the ongoing investigation, making the travel restriction necessary.
The travel bans on the other three individuals were requested by ACC Assistant Director Abdul Malek.
According to the petition, the bank officials allegedly misused their authority, concealing the identities of real account holders and opening 234 FDR accounts under 14 names without following bank regulations.
The accounts were later closed, with irregular transactions totaling Tk16.045 crore. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
