Six more people died of dengue and 1,492 were hospitalised across the country in the 24 hours till Thursday, taking the total number of dengue patients hospitalised this year to 48,430.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported the figures in its daily bulletin on Thursday.
Of the newly hospitalised dengue patients, 979 were men and 512 were women.
Dhaka division, excluding the city corporations, recorded the highest number of new admissions at 327, followed by Khulna with 284, Chattogram 202 and Barishal 178.
Dhaka South City Corporation reported 151 new patients, Rajshahi 122, Dhaka North City Corporation 81, Mymensingh 80, Rangpur 54 and Sylhet 13.
Of the six deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, two were reported in Khulna, while Barishal, Chattogram, Rajshahi and Dhaka division outside the city corporations each reported one.
Meanwhile, 1,304 dengue patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals during the same period.
Since 1 January, dengue has claimed 139 lives, with women accounting for 52.9 per cent of the deaths and men 47.1 per cent, according to the DGHS.
Of the total patients hospitalised this year, 62.3 per cent are men and 37.7 per cent women. So far, 44,857 patients have recovered and been discharged.
Dengue infections remained relatively low during the first half of the year but began increasing from June, DGHS data shows.
August recorded 20,536 cases and 43 deaths, while the first 10 days of September saw 12,584 cases and 42 deaths.
The figures indicate a sharp acceleration in both infections and deaths in recent weeks, with September already accounting for nearly as many dengue deaths as the entire month of August.
