The government on Tuesday approved the procurement of two crore litres of refined palm olein under the local open tender method to meet domestic demand for edible oil.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement held at the Secretariat, with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
According to the proposal placed by the Ministry of Commerce, the edible oil will be supplied in two-litre PET bottles. The total cost of procurement has been estimated at Tk368.90 crore.
Under the approved plan, Sonargaon Seeds Crushing Mills Ltd will supply 10 million litres of refined palm olein, while Shabnam Vegetable Oil Industries Limited will provide the remaining 10 million litres.
Palm olein is the liquid fraction obtained through the fractionation of palm oil and is processed to remain in liquid form at room temperature.
