The office of the Chief Adviser of the interim government has provided financial assistance of Tk25 lakh to the family members of Dipu Chandra Das, a garment worker killed in Bhaluka, Mymensingh.
Under this assistance, Dipu’s wife, Meghna Robi Das, received Tk10 lakh; his father, Robilal Robi Das, received Tk10 lakh; and his 18-month-old daughter, Gitika Rani Das, received Tk5 lakh.
This information was shared on behalf of the family at a press conference organised at Dhaka University’s Jagannath Hall on Monday.
Expressing concern at the press conference, Dipu Das’s wife, Meghna Robi Das, said, “I got married three years ago. My daughter is only 18 months old. She lost her father before she could understand anything. This money will run out one day. If her father were alive, he would raise our daughter with love and affection. Thinking about this makes me very distressed. I demand the execution of my husband’s murderers from the government. And I thank the government for this assistance.”
Recalling memories, Dipu Chandra Das’s mother, Shepali Rani Das, said, “I miss my son very much. If my son were alive, he would work and earn. He would feed his parents. He would hold his child. He would educate his siblings. He would make his children educated. Now everything is finished.”
Dipu’s father, Robilal Robi Das, said, “When I think of my son at night, I cannot sleep. I sit up all night. I can’t focus on any work. I’ve already had a stroke due to all this.”
Demanding justice for the killers, he said, “The way my son was brutally killed, I still see it before my eyes. No one should be killed like this. May no father lose a child. I demand their execution.”
Also present at the time were Dipu Das’s brother, Rittik Das; Kushal Baran Chakrabarty, Assistant Professor at Chittagong University; Suman Kumar Roy and Prasenjit Kumar Halder, representatives of the Bangladesh Sanatani Hindu Jagaran Jote; and Sudipta Pramanik, GS of Jagannath Hall Students’ Union.
Last December, Dipu Chandra Das (27), a worker at a garment factory in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, was beaten to death. Later, his body was hung from a tree on the road divider in the Square Masterbari area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, about a kilometre from the factory, and set on fire.
Following the incident, Dipu’s brother, Apu Chandra Das, filed a case naming 140 to 150 unidentified individuals as accused.
