NCP has formally signed the July Charter following the 13th national parliamentary election, reaffirming its commitment to constitutional reforms.
On Monday evening at 7pm, a delegation, led by NCP convener Nahid Islam, visited the chief adviser’s official residence in Jamuna to complete the signing process.
The party’s central election steering committee media secretary, Yasir Arafat, confirmed the development.
The delegation included member secretary Akhtar Hossain, joint member secretary Zahirul Islam Musa, joint conveners Sarwar Tushar, Monira Sharmin, and Javed Rasin.
The July Charter, originally signed on 17 October, 2025, at the South Plaza of the National Parliament by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and the National Consensus Commission members, had previously received endorsements from 24 political parties, including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
However, NCP had withheld its signature due to concerns over the charter’s legal framework, historical interpretation, and certain constitutional amendments.
Alongside the 13th parliamentary election on 12 February, a referendum on implementing the charter saw participation from over 7.06 crore voters, accounting for 60.26% of the total electorate.
Of these, 4.8 crore voters (68.06%) supported the reforms, while 2.25 crore voters (31.94%) opposed them.
Other parties, including the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD), BSD (Marxist), and Bangladesh JASAD, did not sign the charter.
Representatives of Gano Forum attended the ceremony but refrained from signing due to differences of opinion.
With NCP’s formal endorsement, the July Charter now secures wider political backing, paving the way for the implementation of constitutional reforms and reinforcing national consensus on governance principles.
