The government has instructed all educational institutions to keep their playgrounds accessible to local children, ensuring proper use and promoting sports activities.
From now on, the playgrounds will remain open for local boys and girls to play after the activities of educational institutions and on holidays, said an order issued by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) on Monday according to a ministry letter.
The move follows a decision by an inter-ministerial committee tasked with identifying and utilising sports grounds in cities and villages nationwide.
According to a ministry letter, the step aims to protect existing playgrounds in primary, secondary, and higher education institutions, while providing boys and girls with safe spaces to play.
The DSHE order has been circulated to directors, deputy directors, district education officers, as well as upazila and thana secondary education officers across the country to ensure compliance.
