Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has ranked first among public universities in Bangladesh in the Life Sciences category of the Times Higher Education World University Subject Rankings 2026, securing the country’s highest research quality score.

According to the rankings released on 21 January, the university recorded a research quality score of 69.5, placing it at the top among both public and private institutions in Bangladesh. Globally, Gazipur Agricultural University was ranked in the 601–800 band.

The assessment covered 1,211 universities from 98 countries and evaluated performance across four disciplines: veterinary science, biological sciences, agriculture and forestry, and sports science. The rankings are based on research quality, research environment, teaching excellence and international outlook.

Vice-Chancellor Professor GKM Mustafizur Rahman said the result reflects the university’s research strength and its human-centred academic focus. He credited faculty members, students and staff for the achievement and said the institution would continue to prioritise research, innovation and knowledge creation.

Earlier, Gazipur Agricultural University ranked first among agricultural universities in Bangladesh in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026 and placed 77th globally in the WURI 2025 development and application category.
