Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has felicitated two eminent scientists—Professor Zahurul Karim and Professor MA Rahim—who have been awarded the 2026 Independence Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to education, science, and research in Bangladesh.
In a ceremony on Monday at the university’s old auditorium, the two distinguished personalities were presented with floral tributes and commemorative crests on behalf of the university, said a press release.
The programme was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor GKM Mostafizur Rahman, while it was conducted by Registrar Md Abdullah Mridha. Former chairperson and the first female chair of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC), Professor ZN Tahmida Begum, attended as the special guest. The event was also attended by the university treasurer Professor Md Safiul Islam Afrad, deans of various faculties, directors, the provost, teachers, officials, and distinguished guests from different institutions across the country.
