The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) of the High Commission of India in Dhaka celebrated the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2 October at the High Commission premises.
Addressing the gathering, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi highlighted Gandhi’s enduring ideals of truth, non-violence and selfless service, emphasising their relevance in contemporary society.
The programme began with poster-making and quiz competitions for university and college students, led by Bangladeshi quiz master Ferdous Bappy. The event also marked the closing ceremony of Seva Pakhwada 2026, featuring a multi-faith prayer and floral tributes to Gandhi.
Bangladeshi musicians of Gitimalika performed songs associated with Gandhi, including ‘Vaishnava Jana To’ and ‘Raghupati Raghava’, alongside Rabindra Sangeet.
The programme also featured a Khadi presentation by Bishworang, led by designer Biplob Saha, and a folk-fusion performance by Dhaka University student band Krishnapaksha.
Khadi stalls and artefacts from Gandhi Ashrams in Noakhali and Jamalpur were also displayed.
