In the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, the court has granted another three-day remand for Sibyan Diu and Sanjay Chism, associates of Faisal, widely considered the person responsible for pulling the trigger that put a bullet through Osman Hadi’s.
On Tuesday, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, Joshita Islam, granted this remand.
Earlier on 17 December, the pair had been arrested from the Haluaghat and Dhobaura areas of Mymensingh.
Simultaneously, a three-day remand has also been granted for Faisal (not the shooter) arrested from Narsingdi along with the weapon used in Osman Hadi’s murder. On this day, Assistant Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Suman, representing the state, heard arguments in favour of remand regarding two separate petitions from the investigation officer. However, there was no lawyer present for the accused. Later, the court issued an order for their three-day remand.
Prior to this, on the evening of 15 December, Borger Guard Bangladesh (BGB) had informed about detaining the two of them for interrogation. After interrogation, presenting them as arrested in this case, they were produced in court on 18 the questions, surrouapplying for a seven-day remand each, the court granted a three-day remand. On December 21, the court granted a five-day remand in the second phase. On December 26, after two phases of remand, they were sent to jail.
Additionally, a team of RAB-11 detained the new accused, Faisal, 16 December. conducting an operation in the Tarua bil (wetland) in front of Mollar’s house in the Tarua area under Narsingdi Sadar police station. During the operation, the firearm and bullets used in Hadi’s murder were recovered from underwater. Later, he was shown arrested in the arms case and sent to jail.
The investigation officer of the case, Inspector Faisal Ahmed of the Motijheel Regional Team of DB Police, produced Faisal in court and applied for a seven-day remand.
The application stated that, according to information from Sahida Parvin Samia, wife of the main accused in the case FIR and fugitive accused Faisal Karim Masud, following the information given by accused Faisal, a pistol and bullets were recovered around 11pm on 16 December from the Toroa bil under Narsingdi Sadar Model police station. Later, a case under the Arms Act was filed 0at Narsingdi Sadar Model police station.
The investigation said, it is assumed that the weapon and bullets recovered based on Faisal’s information were used in the sensational Osman Hadi murder at Paltan. The investigation officer requested granting a seven-day remand for interrogating the source and supplier of the weapon, uncovering the murder motive, identifying and arresting the instigators, and arresting the fugitive accused.
Meanwhile, the investigation officer requested a seven-day remand for further interrogation of Sibyan Diu and Sanjay Chism to identify and arrest a person named Philip, the mastermind of a border-crossing syndicate, to find out if anyone else is involved in the matter, to find out who or which persons contacted Philip regarding the murder mission, and to identify the instigators and financiers.
Hadi, who gained recognition through the July uprising as one of its leading voices had announced becoming an independent candidate from Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming parliamentary election. Last Friday, December 12, he went to the Bijoynagar area for public contact and was shot in the head.
The seriously injured Hadi was quickly taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for surgery, and that same night he was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. Later, Hadi was taken to Singapore via air ambulance.
Despite these efforts, Osman Hadi breathed his last on Thursday in Singapore.
