Hollywood legend Dustin Hoffman, Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and several other high-profile figures were among the celebrity guests at Wimbledon on Friday as defending champion Jannik Sinner took on Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles semi-final on Centre Court.
According to AP, the Royal Box welcomed a host of distinguished guests, including British actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Hugh Laurie and Damian Lewis. Fashion designer Tom Ford and Vogue editor Anna Wintour were also in attendance for the marquee clash.
Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of cricket’s greatest-ever players, retired in 2013 after his 200th Test appearance. Wimbledon described him as “cricket royalty”. Former West Indies captain Brian Lara also watched the match from the Royal Box, an area reserved for special guests invited by the All England Club.
Liverpool captain and Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk was another notable spectator. The Dutch side exited the FIFA World Cup in the Round of 32.
Oscar-winning actor Dustin Hoffman, 88, also attended the match, although he was not seated in the Royal Box. He had been a Royal Box guest during last year’s Championships.
Earlier on Centre Court, Germany’s Alexander Zverev booked his place in Sunday’s Wimbledon final after defeating British wild card Arthur Fery.
