Southeast Bank PLC has recently appointed former justice Md Azizul Haque and former additional secretary Nurjahan Begum, ndc, as Independent Directors on its Board of Directors.

The appointments were made at the 799th meeting of the board, held at the bank’s head office board room in Dilkusha and chaired by Southeast Bank Founder and Chairman M A Kashem, said a press release on Sunday.

Md Azizul Haque joined Bangladesh Judicial Service in 1981 and served as an additional judge of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh from 2008 to 2010. He has authored several books on law and is currently serving as an arbitrator.

Nurjahan Begum is a former additional secretary to the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh with nearly four decades of experience in public administration, tax administration, economic management and governance. She served as a Member of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) and as Senior Directing Staff (Civil) at the National Defence College (NDC).

The board discussed various important matters concerning the bank and took decisions accordingly.

The bank said the appointments are expected to strengthen its corporate governance, institutional expertise and organisational capabilities.
