EBL to lend at 5% for green factories, 4% for ICT
Eastern Bank has recently signed two participation agreements with Bangladesh Bank (BB) under two of the central bank’s refinancing schemes to provide customers with financing at preferential interest rates. Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) will provide loans of up to Tk1 billion at an interest rate of 5 per cent for the construction of environmentally friendly factories and buildings under the Green Factory Building and Green Industries Refinancing Scheme.

Under the Refinancing Scheme for the ICT Sector, loans of up to Tk500 million will be available at 4 per cent.

ICT financing will prioritise products and services produced at hi-tech parks and software technology parks, along with women entrepreneurs in the ICT sector.

EBL CEO Hassan O Rashid and Bangladesh Bank Sustainable Finance Department Director A K M Nurunnabi recently signed the agreements on behalf of their respective organisations, said a press release on Tuesday.

EBL Head of SME Business Md Sabu Munsi attended the signing ceremony.

The two schemes are expected to encourage investment in green industries and infrastructure, while supporting ICT sector growth and promoting greater participation of women entrepreneurs.
