Four more children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8am on Sunday, raising the country’s total number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 844 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest fatalities were all classified as suspected measles deaths, the DGHS said in its latest update.

With the new deaths, the number of suspected measles-related fatalities has increased to 748, while laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remain at 96.

During the same period, 1,022 new suspected measles cases were reported, taking the nationwide tally of suspected cases to 130,083.

The number of confirmed measles infections also increased, with 115 new laboratory-confirmed cases reported in the 24-hour period.

The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 16,295.

DGHS data showed that since 15 March, a total of 112,620 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country.

Of them, 108,283 patients have recovered.

Health authorities continue monitoring the spread of the disease as both suspected and confirmed cases are being reported from different parts of the country.
