Five people were killed and three others injured when a pickup collided with a covered van in the City Gate area of Akbar Shah in Chattogram early Monday.
All victims, both killed and injured are fishermen. They belong to Salimpur area in Sitakunda and were heading towards fishery ghat area, police said. Police has identified three victims : Kala Das, Akash Das and Ajit Das.
The accident occurred around 4:55 am, according to Fire Service and Civil Defence control room. Upon receiving the news, a unit from the Agrabad Fire Station rushed to the scene at 5:05 am and carried out the rescue operation.
The distance between the station and the crash site was about five kilometres, fire fighters added. The victims were confirmed dead at the scene, while the injured were taken to a hospital for treatment.
