Five people have died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until Friday morning, while 1,107 new cases were reported nationwide, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In its regular health bulletin issued on Friday, the DGHS said that of the new cases, 968 were suspected measles cases, while 139 were confirmed through laboratory testing.

The reported deaths occurred among suspected cases in different divisions-two in Chattogram and one each in Dhaka, Sylhet, and Rangpur. Health officials said investigations are underway to determine the exact causes of death.

Since 15 March, the country has recorded 1,03,961 suspected measles cases, of which 12,425 have been confirmed through tests, according to DGHS data.

During the same period, 636 deaths have been reported among suspected cases, while 93 deaths have been confirmed as measles-related.

In the last 24 hours, Dhaka division reported the highest number of suspected cases with 412 patients, followed by Chattogram (181), Barishal (137), Sylhet (94), Khulna (45), Mymensingh (40), Rajshahi (38), and Rangpur (21).

Meanwhile, 851 patients were admitted to hospitals during the period, while 784 were discharged after recovery.

DGHS data shows that since 15 March, Dhaka division has reported the highest number of suspected cases at 47,477, followed by Chattogram with 18,064 and Barishal with 10,471.

Dhaka also leads in confirmed cases, with 8,270 infections.
