Bangladesh has launched its first artificial intelligence (AI) platform for the Bangla language, Kagoj.ai. At the same event, a new Bangla font, July, was unveiled.

The Bangladesh Computer Council developed both Kagoj.ai and the July font under the project titled ‘Enrichment of the Bengali Language in Information Technology through Research and Development.’ The project was implemented under the ICT Division.

The inauguration took place on Monday at Hotel InterContinental. Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant for the Ministry of Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, presided over the event.

Officials said that ‘Kagoj.ai’ will enable the use of artificial intelligence for Bangla-language writing, official document preparation, language processing, and content creation.

This marks a significant milestone in the digital advancement of the Bangla language. No such comprehensive AI platform for Bangla has been launched before.

Meanwhile, the new Bangla font ‘July’ has been developed for official and institutional use. It aims to overcome the current limitations in computer-based Bangla writing.
Speaking as the chief guest, Fayez Ahmad Taiyeb said “Over the past two weeks, around 4,000 people have tested the font and reported positively.”

He said the authorities will open the platform’s application programming interface to ensure wider public access. They will also release the source code while maintaining cyber security standards.

He stressed the need to protect linguistic and cultural diversity. As part of that effort, the authorities plan to collect 10,000 minutes of oral language data from each ethnic community.

The initiative will support the development of Bangla LML (Language Model Library).

Taiyeb said this step will help preserve local languages in the digital sphere.

He added that greater use of the platform will help developers identify challenges faster. That process, he said, will speed up development and strengthen the overall ecosystem.

The event was chaired by Shish Haider Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.

Professor Dr Mohammad Azam, director general of Bangla Academy, attended the event.

Zahirul Islam, additional secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, was also present, along with senior government officials, technology experts and invited guests.
