Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) has commenced drilling a new well at the Titas Gas Field in Brahmanbaria.
The drilling of the new No. 28 well at location ‘C’ in Shuhilpur, Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila was inaugurated on Monday by Mohammad Shoyeb, director of PetroBangla.
The well, once completed, is expected to contribute an additional 15 million cubic feet of gas daily to the national grid.
According to project officials, a survey for gas exploration was first conducted at location ‘C’ of the Titas Gas Field in 2012. Following a review of the survey report in 2020, BGFCL authorities planned to drill three new wells at the Titas Gas Field.
As part of the project, another well will be drilled at the Kamta Gas Field in Gazipur. The cost of drilling four wells at Titas and Kamta Fields is estimated at approximately Tk1,250 crore. Upon completion, the wells are expected to add around 55 million cubic feet of gas daily to the national grid.
The drilling work for the No. 28 well at Titas is being carried out by the Chinese contractor company, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).
The drilling is expected to take around three and a half months to complete, after which it is expected to contribute additional amount of gas per day.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mohammad Shoyeb said, “The production at gas fields operated by BGFCL has already increased. Once the new wells and workover projects are implemented, the country’s energy shortage will be significantly reduced.”
He also mentioned that the Titas No. 31 and Bakhrabad Gas Field No. 11 deep well drilling projects are underway. “PetroBangla is working tirelessly to meet the country’s energy demands,” he added.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by BGFCL Managing Director Engineer Mohammad Faruque Hossain, Company Secretary Mozahar Ali, and Director of the four-well drilling project at Titas and Meghna Fields, AKM Jasim Uddin.
