Gas supply to the national grid has increased by 22 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) following the installation of five wellhead compressors at the Titas Gas Field with an investment of Tk620 crore.
Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited said the five wells previously produced 39 million cubic feet of gas per day, which has now risen to 61 million cubic feet.
The additional 22 million cubic feet entered commercial supply to the national grid on Tuesday.
Company data showed that long-term gas extraction from Location-E wells 11 and 12 and Location-G wells 17, 18 and 27 had reduced wellhead pressure, restricting gas flow to the grid.
To restore pressure and output, a project to install wellhead compressors at Location-E and Location-G began in March 2021 and was completed ahead of schedule.
The project was implemented by a joint venture of US-based AG Equipment and Singapore’s G-Com International.
Officials said early completion also helped reduce project expenditure.
Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited General Manager Planning and Development Abul Kasem Khan said testing, commissioning and performance runs were completed successfully after installation.
He said 31 million cubic feet of gas per day is now flowing from Location-E and 30 million cubic feet from Location-G.
He also said by-product recovery has increased, with about 36 barrels of condensate being extracted daily from the two locations combined.
Meanwhile, to meet rising gas demand, work is under way on seven well workovers in the Titas, Habiganj and Meghna gas fields, four appraisal-cum-development wells at Titas-Kamta, two deep exploration wells at Titas-Bakhrabad and 3-D seismic survey projects in the Habiganj-Bakhrabad-Meghna gas zones.
