Three passenger buses were damaged in a fire at Munshirhat Bazar in Matlab South upazila of Chandpur on Friday night.
The fire broke out at around 9pm.
Witnesses said a Jainpur Paribahan bus operating on the Baburhat–Dhaka route suddenly caught fire, which quickly spread to two adjacent buses.
One bus was completely gutted, while the other two were partially damaged.
Two units from Matlab South Fire Service and Civil Defence Station rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control after nearly an hour with assistance from locals.
No casualties were reported as the buses were empty at the time of the incident.
However, owners and staff said the fire caused substantial financial losses.
Matlab South Fire Service Assistant Officer Abu Yusuf said firefighters responded promptly after receiving information about the blaze on the Jainpur bus.
The cause of the fire could not be confirmed immediately and an investigation is under way, he said.
